Mahopac Austin Road, Fulmar Road, and Lakeview Elementary School students participated in the district’s annual cross-country race, held at Lakeview Elementary School on Oct. 16. Students trained for the races for several weeks and almost 230 students from second through fifth grade competed from all three elementary schools.
Qualifying competitors move on to race in the annual Mahopac Elementary School 5K race at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights, New York, on Oct. 23. The event will begin at approximately 10 a.m. at the park and will conclude with a special awards ceremony after all our runners have finished.
“This race is a wonderful opportunity to have students from all over our district come together for a little friendly competition with their parents, teachers and community members cheering them on,” physical education teacher Bill Huestis said. “The annual 5K is a special event for our district, and students are eager to show off all their hard work on race day.”
In case of inclement weather, the race will be postponed and will be rescheduled for Oct. 24 at FDR Park.
