First graders from Robin Clark’s class at Lakeview Elementary School recently wrapped up their personal narrative writing unit with a heartwarming Author’s Celebration that not only showcased their growth but inspired the next generation of storytellers. To mark the occasion, the students selected their favorite personal stories to share with Jodi Kozera and Kimberly Lieto’s kindergarten class.
“Our students were thrilled to share their finished work with the kindergartners and later with their families at home,” Clark said. “We are incredibly proud of their growth and progress since the beginning of the year, and this celebration was a wonderful way to highlight that.”
During the event, the first graders sat at tables displaying their personal stories while the kindergartners walked around the room, listening intently to each one. Stories included tales of a lost tooth, playing hockey in the basement, getting a new puppy and celebrating family holidays. Afterward, the kindergartners shared their thoughts with the authors, offering praise and compliments on their drawings, neat handwriting and the impressive number of words on each page.
The event provided a meaningful opportunity for the first graders to build confidence, practice reading fluently and embrace their identity as authors. At the same time, they offered the kindergartners a glimpse into their own writing journey ahead.
“Our kindergartners have been working on their own narrative writing unit, creating true stories about their lives through family collages,” Kozera said. “The Author’s Celebration gave them a wonderful preview of the kinds of writing they will be doing next year as first graders, making it a meaningful and inspiring experience for them.”
This special celebration created a shared moment of learning and excitement across grade levels.
