Lakeview Elementary School was buzzing with creativity and collaboration during the annual Lakeview Lets Off STEAM event, held in the school’s auditorium. The event featured 11 exciting STEAM challenges, each set up at individual tables for students to explore.
Led by STEAM teacher Jennifer Borst and her dynamic team of fifth graders, students in grades K-4 rotated through each station, engaging in hands-on activities while learning to apply the engineering design process. From building structures to solving puzzles, each challenge encouraged problem-solving, innovation and teamwork.
“This event is a highlight of the year,” Borst said. “It provides our older students with the opportunity to lead and teaches all of our students that learning can be fun, creative and collaborative.”
Fifth grade parents were also invited to attend and had the unique opportunity to visit the stations and be taught by their own children – an experience that brought pride and joy to all involved.
“Events like Lakeview Lets Off STEAM are possible because of the expertise and dedication of our EdTech STEAM coaches who train all of our teachers to be able to use these kinds of learning experiences in and around the classroom,” Director of Technology Benjamin August said. “Jenn Borst conceived of the event and has been the driving force for making these days something that all the student leaders and participants will remember for years to come.”
